This amazing Victorian home is situated in the beautiful valley just north of Ouray, surrounded by the majestic San Juan Mountains. This historic gem is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Construction began in 1886 and was completed in 1888 by George Andrew Jackson, who is credited with discovering the first commercial gold deposits in Colorado and was the nephew of Kit Carson.
Over the years, the property underwent numerous changes, ultimately falling into disrepair and remaining vacant for an extended period. In 2000, a local judge and builder purchased the home and initiated an incredible 10-year restoration project. Updates included all-new plumbing and electrical systems, foam-insulated interior walls, a copper roof, new subfloors, central heating and cooling, as well as new doors and windows. The subsequent owners, who bought the home in 2011, completed the restoration by 2013.
The level of care and craftsmanship throughout the house is truly something to behold. Custom walnut millwork, crafted by a local artisan, adds elegance to the interior doors, windows, baseboards, and cabinetry. Much of the original gingerbread detailing still adorns the exterior, alongside original elements of the staircase that leads from the foyer to the second level. Marble and wood floors are featured throughout the home.
The kitchen is equipped with reproduction Heartland appliances, including two ovens, a broiler, a warming drawer, a refrigerator, and a dishwasher, creating a charming vintage ambiance with modern functionality.
